A few years before NASCAR’s “open wheel invasion” came Larry Foyt, the adopted son of four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt. Early in his own racing career, Larry would be steered away from the IRL and into the seat of a stock car. And when A.J. restarted his Cup Series team, it seemed only a matter of time before Larry would drive. That time would arrive much sooner than both driver and team had anticipated, culminating in one of the most frustrating rookie campaigns in the history of the series. This is that story.
