A lord Count Nanetos disenfranchises his nephew Gerasimo, leaving his Grammarian Rodinis as the general heir of his will. Rodinis, in order to marry his beloved Angeliki, requests a loan from the Notary of the will Tapa. The Notary's daughter Marina loves Gerasimo and her father reveals the content of the will to her lover and together they draw up a new will in order to force his uncle to sign it. Voratis and his daughter Angeliki visit the sick Count Nanetos and discuss the marriage of Rodiniswith Angeliki. Rodinis leaves for Corfu in order to get his mother's wish. Meanwhile, that same night, the old man murders his uncle, managing to intercept his signature on the general power of attorney.
